A Little Bit of Elizabeth White, A Little Bit of Blueberry

The entire area of Whitesbogs is in a hustle and bustle of setting up for the Pinelands Discovery Festival which will take place this weekend. It is very educational about the wildlife and nature of the NJ pinelands.

Signs are being put up, areas are sectioned off, and tents are set up. I’m excited to grab my journalism gear and to document the event, as well as get some interviews.

I’m finding some interesting information on Whitesbog and what it is about. Here is some information that I have discovered.

During the summer, I picked blueberries right off the bushes from the sides of the trails through the bogs. Whitesbogs has much significance in the blueberry business because it was one of the first blueberry growers. Named after Elizabeth Coleman White, who made the farm business successful, Whitesbogs flourished in cultivating both cranberries and blueberries.

Here is a preview of the festival. This one is the Blueberry festival of last year, which I attended. The Pinelands Festival happening this weekend is similar, but will showcase different subjects mostly focused on nature.

The geographical location of the Pine Barrens, where Whitesbog is located, is a great spot. It only takes me 25 minutes to get to the beach from my little house.I love overall living in New Jersey though.
